Detail S-1395 Couple5 PDA Software

In any alignment system, the hardware is only half the story. The software is the other, more important half because it is the software that you use 95% of the time. So when we designed the Stealth™ Series Couple5 Software, we wrote it with the novice user in mind and created our Easy Guide™ approach to software navigation that makes it so easy to use that it requires little to no training. Easy-to-follow, high quality, color screens lead you through each stage of the alignment, so you don’ t need to constantly refer to “ cheat sheets” just to remember how to use it! With any shaft-to-shaft alignment, it is important to find the axis of rotation of one shaft relative to the other to eliminate the effects of mounting errors on the measurement. Traditional methods, like the rim and face method, attempt to do this but in reality still rely on machined faces and rims for accuracy. It is easy to see that an error in the flatness of a coupling face or the concentricity of the rim can affect the measurement. The Stealth™ Series Lasers take care of this problem by using software to record data as the shafts are being rotated. By rotating the laser and target together through 60º to 360º and taking multiple points along the way, the mounting errors can be calculated and subtracted out of the raw data to give you highly accurate alignment data of the motor' s shaft relative to the pump' s shaft without any calculations! To do an alignment with our Couple5 Software, simply follow the screens and Easy-Guide™ software screens will guide you through the alignment. Couple5 Screen Tour Step 1 - Dimensions, Tolerances & Thermal Growth Select machine and coupling type and the dimension screen changes to reflect the choice. Enter the A, B, C & D dimensions in the entry boxes. Hit Next. Select the RPM and Couple5 converts the tolerance to match the coupling diameter. Hit Next. If needed, thermal growth offsets ( the amount the motor grows from a cold start to operating temperature) are also entered at this stage. Hit Next. A summary page then shows what selections have been made. Hit Done to go to Step 2 Laser Setup. Step 2 - Laser Setup The Laser Setup Screen shows live raw alignment data when installing the laser and target on the brackets. First, the V & H Offset values are adjusted to center the laser to the target. Vertical adjustment is made by sliding the laser up/ down the posts until the V axis displays green ( + / - .030" or 0.8 mm) . Horizontal adjustment is done with an adjustment wheel on the face of the laser ( S-670 & S-680) and arrows tell which way to adjust it. Then hit Next to display the V & H Angular values screen. If there are any large angles, then the user does a rough alignment to bring the angles closer to zero. For new motor installations, this screen is used to " rough in" the motor' s large angular misalignment. Hit Next to go to Step 3 - Soft Foot Step 3 - Soft Foot Check Follow on-screen instructions to take Soft-Foot data for each of the motor' s feet. Take a reading with the bolt tight and then loosen it and take a second reading. The recorded values are shown right on the screen. Hit Next to go to the next foot. Continue until all the data for all 4 feet has been taken. The final screen is a summary showing the results for all 4 feet, and if one foot requires shimming, then the display turns red and the recommended shim is displayed. Add the shim and re-take the data to confirm. Note this can be skipped if Soft Foot was already done. A note of caution: this soft-foot routine is best used with motor uncoupled to the driven unit. This is because a large pump and rigid coupling can prevent the laser from finding soft-foot problems. The laser measures shaft deflections caused by a soft foot and if the shaft is rigidly coupled to a driven unit it may be prevented from being detected by the laser. Hit Next to go to Step 3. Step 4 - Take Readings There are up to 4 different data-taking screens in Couple5: Auto-Clock™ - Couple5' s standard data-taking screen allows you to take up to 8 readings with 90° to 360° of shaft rotation. Auto Sweep™ - the best data-taking method. Period! Simply start rotating the shafts together and Couple5 automatically records hundreds of data points. Stop rotating and the Measurement Results screen pops up. Take data with as little as 60° to as much as 360° of shaft rotation. Point Mode - Used for applications where obstructions prevent full rotation or where vibrations are present. Rotate the shafts to any point, where the data is averaged, and hit Record. Take as many points at ANY location as needed to generate alignment results and with as little as 60° to as much as 360° of shaft rotation. Uncoupled Mode Used with the S-670 & S-680 hardware, Uncoupled Mode makes taking data extremely easy for uncoupled shafts. Rotate the laser to any clock location and then sweep the target by, Couple5 finds the best data point and records it. Take as many points in any location as needed to generate alignment results and with as little as 60° to as much as 360° of shaft rotation. After the data has been recoreded, hit Accept and the data is put into the Repeatability table ( if enabled) where multipe sets of data can be compared. If the data looks repeatable, then one set is chosen and the Gap/ Offset Screen is displayed, which shows the results and compares them against the tolerances. Red means the data is out of tolerance, yellow means it' s within acceptable tolerance and green means it' s within excellent tolerance. At this point, the data can be saved as " as-is" values, or if needed, the Move button can be tapped to go to Step 5 Move Screen to align the motor. Step 5 - Move Screens Step 5 Move screens offer live alignment, shim and move values, and dynamically updating machine graphics that update with each move of the motor. Offset, angular, shim and move values are also color-coded to indicate in or out of tolerance conditions. The screens also feature our Flip-It™ feature to flip the graphics when the motor orientation does not match the graphics. Simply double-tap the screen and Flip-It™ automatically flips the screen graphics! The data-updating speed ( averaging) can be adjusted to smooth out fluctuations in the readings due to air turbulence or vibration. For motors with large misalignment, steps 4 and 5 may need to be repeated. In general, however, one set of shims and moves is all that is needed to perform the alignment. When done, hit Re-Meas and Couple5 automatically goes back to Step 4 and readies itself to take a new set of data to confrim alignment. Transferring Report Files and Printing Reports After saving data and shutting down, the PDA can then be taken back to the office and connected to a PC, where our Couple5 Report App is installed. Our Hamar Active Sync app automatically looks on the PDA or Smart Phone finds and copies the new alignment files to the report folder on the PC. Run Couple5 Report Software, scroll down to find the file and print away.
